My 2023 In Review
2023 Goals
My biggest goal for 2023 was to finally read books again. I am happy to report that I did finally read some books again! The books I read were:
- How To Live On 24 Hours A Day - Arnold Bennett
- Numbers Don't Lie - Vaclav Smil
- The Shareholder Value Myth: How Putting Shareholders First Harms Investors, Corporations, and the Public - Lynn Stout
A pretty small book list but I have ambitions in 2024 to read many more books. Books currently on the docket:
- Don't Sleep, There Are Snakes - Daniel L. Everett
- Narrative and Numbers - Aswath Damodaran
- A Random Walk Down Wall Street - Burton G. Malkiel
- The Brilliant Abyss - Helen Scales
- Outlive - Peter Attia, MD
- You Will Own Nothing - Carol Roth Hopefully can read a book every two months, a super realistic goal.
2023 Financially
This year was ahead of plan in the savings rate category. I was targeting a 45% savings rate and ended with a hair shy of 51%. I am very proud of myself. I am fortunate to be on solid ground financially which has allowed me to keep my expenses low relative to my income. Further I am most proud that I was able to yet again achieve a giving rate of over 22% of expenses or just shy of 11% of income. I continue to aim to give over 10% of income in 2024.
Nothing feels better than giving.
